Be a part of our ground-breaking book series. We go all-in on our efforts to inspire millions of children across the country with the “Sachiko Goes Racing” book series.
Illustrator
We’re looking for an illustrator that can capture the essence of “Sachiko” and her characters.
This illustrator will create all illustrations for Book 3, including book spreads, book cover and accompanying merchandise. They will collaborate with our type designer & car illustrator.
We’re looking for someone who is great at responding promptly to requests, maintains deadlines well and is a professional illustrator with at least 2 years experience in client work.
This is a project basis position with a set budget for illustrations. This is a remote position. The Illustrator must be available during business hours regularly for Zoom call check-ins with the team.
We are expanding the book line to include more books past book 3 and other special projects such as a graphic novel & workbook. So after this project, there are lots of other opportunities to collaborate with our team.
Sachiko Goes Racing is an independently published children’s book series that features inspirational stories for kids based on the experiences of former Professional Drift Racer + Fast & The Furious stunt double Nadine Sachiko Hsu. Our books are sold at Kinokuniya stores across the USA, at museums such as the Petersen Automotive Museum and the Japanese American National Museum with goal of selling in Target & Wal-Mart.
Requirements
Must have relevant portfolio experience illustrating for books or other publications for 2+ years.
Expertise in
character development (creating characters in the Sachiko style based on supplied photos)
ability to capture the essence of existing book characters
ability to illustrate vibrant & colorful children’s book layouts
responsive to emails
detail oriented to the max
bandwith to take this project on during the months of April-June 2025.
ability to deliver work well within project timelines
color theory
ability to create files as needed by team for book promotion (IE PNG, PDF, web sized images, transparent background files, etc).
How to Apply
Submit an original full color sketch of Sachiko. This image can be a hand drawn sketch or digital art. The position/stance of Sachiko is freestyle, but must be full body. Use the images from this page as reference. The images submitted should echo the original essence and style of the supplied images.
Submit the images in PDF or JPG format to info@sachikogoesracing.com by March 31, 2025 for consideration.
