About the Author - Nadine Sachiko Hsu

MY BACKGROUND
I was one of the first women in the USA to pursue drifting, a professional motorsport that originated from Japan in the 1980’s. From 2002-2006, I was a 14 sponsor-backed professional racecar driver and one of the only women competing in the Formula Drift Series (America’s 1st professional drift racing series). I am the founder of Drifting Pretty (an organization for the advancement of women in motorsports), stunt double in Fast & The Furious Tokyo Drift, drift racing instructor, and was a regular competitor in local drifting competitions.

My car, which I still own today, is an award winning race car, winning numerous trophies at both car shows and drift races across California. My car was most recently featured as a cover car for Stance Magazine.

I have been interviewed & featured in countless publications & TV Shows across the USA, France, Japan and most recently the UK.

MY SOCIAL CAUSE
As I searched for books to read my daughters, I looked for children’s books that highlighted the social cause near and dear to my heart: empowering women to pursue their dreams & passions, even if they seemed socially uncommon. I also longed for books by AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islanders) and Hapa (persons of mixed Asian ancestry) women authors. These books were SO difficult to find...near impossible.

I wanted a children’s book that would empower my girls and other boys and girls to do what they dream. I also wanted to show them that little girls who dream and become race car drivers is normal these days, so I decided to write my own book to fill that void.

6 months later, book 1, “Sachiko Goes Racing” was born. I have so many personal stories and lessons I learned from being a race car driver to share, that I’ve planned an entire book series. Book 2 comes out in early 2023. Join my exclusive email list to be notified when we release more details on Book 2.

TODAY
I’m a first-time author and an avid cute children’s book reader and collector. Professionally, I am an entrepreneur that runs a luxury portrait photography studio (Sachiko Studio) in Arcadia, CA and a boutique accounting firm (Sachiko Accounting). I also co-produce the Sileightymania Podcast and Produce the Drifting Pretty Podcast.

I still go drifting once in a while, and I still own my original race car featured in the book. In my free time, you can find me collecting sneakers and dancing Hip-Hop with an all-female AAPI mom crew and spending as much time as I can on watching movies with my beloved husband Benson.

Yuka is a talented illustrator from the SGV and a graduate of Art Center, Pasadena.

She is responsible for designing and painting several murals in my 2600 square foot office & studio space.

Yuka regularly illustrates children’s books and runs an adorable sticker shop on Etsy. Her artwork is cheerful, colorful and silly…which is perfect for little Sachiko’s stories!!

Kristy Toyoda-Hsu

I was lucky enough to get Kristy to sign on as my typographer for the book. She handled all the font selection, book logo and layout organization. She is the glue that kept my design looking amazing.

Thank you Kristy doll I love you!
